Novel humorously explores Divine inspiration and quest for better world

SAINT-JOLIVET OF PENDLETON by Christian-Eric Falardeau
ISBN 1-55369-247-0

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"SAINT-JOLIVET OF PENDLETON is a quest for a better world," says Montreal author Christian-Eric Falardeau of his first novel. "The book begins with the invention of a device that eliminates imbeciles. The nature of this invention is such that it could only come from Divine inspiration, which drives the book's heroes to assemble disciples to achieve their mission."

Many strange things happen, casting shadows on their enterprise, and a new man appears, challenging the main characters' assumptions. The true nature of the world is eventually revealed as one reads further.

"The idea of having more than one way of looking at the same thing has always interested me," says Falardeau. "In particular, imagining what really went on in the Garden of Eden to lead us to the world we are living in today. Not that I believe there was such a thing as Adam and Eve, but it is a powerful metaphor for human relationships."

Falardeau continues: "In other words, if we were meant to be the descendants of a single man and a single woman, it's logical to hope they had a good relationship. Otherwise, what would they have taught their children?"

Falardeau wrote the book to create questions, rather than provide answers. With its multitude of meanings and unique angles, the reader is left wondering about the world surrounding them and their relationships with their families.

Christian-Eric Falardeau was born in 1968, on a farm near the village of Beaudry, now part of Rouyn-Noranda, in Abitibi-Temiscamingue (north-west of Quebec). He has two brothers and three sisters. In 1990, he graduated from Sherbrooke University with a degree in computer science, embarked on a career as a programmer analyst and, later on, became a software development manager. At the present time he still occupies a managerial position in the telecommunications industry in Montreal.

He wrote SAINT-JOLIVET OF PENDLETON in 1993 before slowing down to accommodate the demands of a busy profession. Writing on and off over the next few years, he came back to literature on a more serious level in 2001 with the completion of his third novel (Caroline) and various short stories.

Moving more and more towards a full-time career as a writer, many new novels and short stories can be expected in the coming months and years.
